Mechanical installation “Skryf” by Dutch artist Gijs van Bon was placed by “Origo” shopping centre during the “White Night” modern culture forum
“White Night” is an international modern culture forum taking place in the largest European and world cities, where both museums and art galleries open their doors and cinema, theatre, dance and other creative performances are held on the streets. In cooperation with the Riga City Council Education, Culture and Sports Department and the “I Did It” society, this year on September 10th the mechanical installation “Skryf”, or Sand Writer, by Dutch artist Gijs van Bon was placed by the “Origo” shopping centre.
Dutch artist Gijs van Bon’s “Skryf” mechanical installation invites anyone to be a witness to the peculiar performance art, watching how a mechanical device creates letters, sentences and finally text with a message from sand. During the “White Night”, the “Origo” square became an “open page”, where legible lines of poetic texts were created. Furthermore, the creation of the work was fascinating, watching how a peculiar mechanical device goes on its way writing only what it knows itself.
The installation author Gijs van Bon is an internationally renowned kinetic art object artist, has graduated from the Design Academy in Eindhoven, and has participated in exhibitions and art forums since 2001.
